So, first we introduce the little ones to a PICTURE of a cup. In fact, you can bring one from the Cup…board. (Perhaps a plastic one is best:) Let them handle it while you show them a drawing of a cup. Then show them how to make a cupped-hand and, perhaps, let them drink water from their hand. Why not? YOU do it already, on occasion. You can even tell them that when they are older and take a walk in the woods, they won’t necessarily have to bring a cup, because they will be bringing two cups with them already:). Just make sure the stream is filled with very clean water like in the Wharton Track in South Jersey:). Yes, the PICTURE OF A HAND OR A CUP ON THE WALL OF A CAVE IN MESOPOTAMIA BECAME OUR LETTER “C,” PROBABLY:).
