"I Love You, Jesus" - Lenny Smith

You're my friend and I'm your friend too!

At 82, I finally see that you, Jesus, are gentle and kind, meek and humble. I remember, back in the late 60’s, singing a worship song called “Sweet Jesus.” Over many years, I see you Jesus gradually humbling the self, until near the very end, when your ego was almost non-existent. Some Christians honor huge egos now, but the ones with tiny egos are really the ones who are advanced in spirituality. Meekness is NOT weakness, but awesome loveliness and beauty. How did we get this so wrong. Jesus is not some predator like a lion of Judah, but remains just like our Father, a lamb, the Lamb of God. Becoming lamb-like is not cowardice, but courageous. “The meek shall inherit the earth.” Jesus, you said you wanted to be like a mother hen, gathering her chicks under her wings, but we would not hear of it. Please do now gather us under your wings. Where else would we ever want to be but close to you?

At 81, I have so much to share and so little time, so I have packed my thoughts into songs. I love sharing my songs and my thoughts about the meaning of these songs. I hope you do too. Sometimes, I just write without a song. I hope I have something worthwhile to say:).
